365 ~ 2013: Day 272

One of my favorite things about going to the Deerfield Fair is being able to see the Flying Wallenda's!!  Not only do they put on a really fun show, they always stay after to give autographs, chat and take pictures!  Here are all the kids with Alessandro Wallenda after the show!

365 ~ 2013: Day 263

I think we all have those moments when you feel like the worst parent on earth.  I have had my fair share of those moments but then you get an email from your child's teacher telling you about an incident at school that makes you realize that perhaps you're not totally ruining your kids lives!
I forgot to tell you today that Shaun had an "incident" with another student. They were reading books together and I think Shaun thought he would be funny and put his face down in the other child's book but when he came up, his head hit that child in the nose pretty hard. I didn't see this happen, but when I turned I saw Shaun sitting in a chair at a table looking like he was going to cry. I asked what was wrong and he said, "I'm in trouble>" I asked why he was in trouble as I had not spoken to him or told him to go to the chair. Then I saw the other child completely in tears on the rug, but silent. I was able to get the same story from both kids and in the end, it was a complete accident as a result of silliness.
The positive part that came of it was Shaun choosing to "Take a Break" on his own. It was the perfect example of how someone might choose to put themselves in take a break to think about something that has happened or regain control. This has never happened before so I praised Shaun for making that choice and let him know that it was a great use of Take a Break.  I could tell he felt a lot of remorse immediately and he was definitely more hard on himself than I would have expected. Then after recess, probably a half hour later, he approached the other child all on his own and apologized again. Even though someone got hurt initially, it was a very sophisticated way of dealing with the situation. He is always honest and forthcoming. He's a sweet little boy. As a mom, I thought you would be proud of him.
And I definitely was!

365 ~ 2013: Day 260

Ladies and gentlemen, I present the most stubborn child on the planet.  Who chose to sit at the table for an entire afternoon, over eating 4 tiny cut up pieces of a farm fresh peach.  Sigh!

365 ~ 2013: Day 259

He's starting to get the hang of it!  Right now his instinct is to push backwards but he's working hard to move his bike forward!

365 ~ 2013: Day 258

Someone is mad at me for making the "wrong" sandwich.  Not sure what his issue was, he loves peanut butter and fluff, it's not like I made him a liverwurst sandwich with mustard.

This is David's second year in Division 1 soccer and this year the volunteer coaches have the assistance of professionals from England!  They were working on learning the different positions.

365 ~ 2013: Day 255

Today was school picture day!  This is Evan's first time getting his school pictures done.  I was assisting the company today and was able to see Evan come down with his class.  You would have thought that this kid has never been in front of a camera before.  He completely froze.  The two staff members sat tried to get him to sit back and smile but he wasn't having it!  He was the epitome of awkward and goofy!  I think they eventually got a smile out of him but it won't be natural.  I can't wait to see how they turn out!  In any case, I'm glad I have this one!

365 ~ 2013: Day 249

This guy came to hang out with me while I sat outside waiting to go grab David from the bus.  I don't have a Macro lens, but these are the times I would want one!  I had to settle with my phone for this one...

365 ~ 2013: Day 247

So we won't be sharing a birthday after all (she couldn't hold out for 11 more minutes!) but I did get to hold her and snuggle her today so it's a close second!  Welcome to the world sweet baby girl!

365 ~ 2013: Day 246

Tonight I headed south to say goodbye to one of my adopted grandmothers, since I never met either of my grandmothers, I felt lucky to be able to have my friends grandmothers in my life.  My boys are lucky to have both of their grandmothers in their lives and even luckier to have 2 great grandmothers.  I'm inspired tonight to post this picture I snapped today of David and his Omi walking home from the bus stop this afternoon.
